Giant Sewing Needle in Dublin, Ireland

The Spire of Dublin, alternatively titled the Monument of Light is a large, stainless “Sewing Needle”, a pin-like monument 120 meters in height. It is located in O’Connell Street on the site of the former Nelson’s Pillar which members of the IRA blew up in 1966. The Spire of Dublin monument was after a long planning and construction phase completed in 2004.

  1. This spire is also known by many impolite names. We first saw it in 2008 and again in 2019. Hope all is well with you.

  2. I saw it under construction, with huge cranes carefully assembling the segments, quite a sight.
