The Museo Larco should definitely be on the “to do” list when visiting Lima. It is located about 20 minutes from the historic center of Lima in the Pueblo Libre district. The white building was built in the typical architecture of the 18th century of the town Trujillo. Originally founded in Trujillo, the museum was relocated to Lima some 50 years ago. The museum’s permanent exhibition offers visitors a superb perspective on more than 5,000 years of ancient Peruvian history. Also very interesting are the storage rooms with tens of thousands of antique ceramic objects that are made accessible to the public. A little further away from the main museum are exhibited erotic artworks that give visitors a picture of the Peruvian sexuality of that time. You will find the “erotic rooms”, a bit hidden, on the way to the restaurant. All in all, the Museo Larco is one of the best and most beautiful museums I have visited in South America.
