Saint James Way


The Saint James Way (a.k.a. Camino de Santiago) refers to a number of pilgrimage routes throughout Europe, all of which are destined to the alleged grave of the apostle James in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia (Spain).

Nowadays, pilgrims walk on the “Camino Francés” that commences in Saint Pied de Port in the Pyrenees. This route arose in the first half of the 11th century and was, during the medieval, the main traffic artery in northern Spain; it leads from the Pyrenees to Jacob’s grave and through the Royal cities Jaca, Pamplona, Estella, Burgos and León.

Der Jakobsweg (auch bekannt als Camino de Santiago) bezieht sich auf eine Reihe von Pilgerwege in Europa, die alle an das angebliche Grab des Apostels Jakobus in Santiago de Compostela in Galicien (Spanien) führen.

Der heutzutage meist begangene Pilgerweg ist der “Camino Francés”, welcher in Saint Pied de Port in den Pyrenäen beginnt. Dieser Weg entstand in der ersten Hälfte des 11. Jahrhunderts und war während des Mittelalters die Hauptverkehrsader im Norden von Spanien; er führt von den Pyrenäen bis zum Grab des Jakobus und durch die ehemaligen Königsstädte Jaca, Pamplona, Estella, Burgos und León.

    Funny because we went to Santiago de Compostela taking a plane from Barcelona. It is unforgivable. We told ourselves, we have to go back there using the ST. James Way. So, we might have to start from this place that you mentioned. I know there is so much grace and blessings with this kind of pilgrimage experience. I look forward to having our shell at Santiago.
