The „Wheels of Time“ in Sofia Railway Station

Sofia Central Railway Station is located about one kilometer north of the Lion Bridge, on the Boulevard Knjaginja Maria Louisa. Next to the train station is the newly built bus station Sofia.

The Sofia Central Railway Station opened on 1 August 1888. For the opening ceremony of the station came a train from London, which drove over Paris and continued on the following day via Plovdiv to Istanbul. The opening of the station coincided with the completion of a continuous rail link from Western Europe to Istanbul. Since then, Sofia Central Station has been one of the stops of the legendary Orient Express. Between 2012 and 2016, the entire complex of the station was completely renovated. The aim of the renovation was a new “old” central station with a modern and contemporary appearance.

The “Wheels of Time” is a fantastic digital mural (about 130 m2) in the station hall. The artist Prof. Dr. med. Boyan Dobrev gives the main station a modern and contemeporary appearance. This artistically designed digital mural, a mosaic of over 5,600 historical photos, shows and tells the story of the Bulgarian railway company. A visit to the Sofia Central Railway Station is worthwhile, even if you do not take a train.

Der Hauptbahnhof von Sofia wurde am 1. August 1888 eröffnet. Zur Eröffnungszeremonie des Bahnhofs kam ein Zug aus London an, der über Paris fuhr und am folgenden Tag über Plovdiv nach Istanbul weiterfuhr. Mit der Bahnhofseröffnung wurde gleichzeitig die durchgehende Bahnverbindung von Westeuropa nach Istanbul fertiggestellt. Seitdem ist der Hauptbahnhof von Sofia eine der Haltestellen des legendären Orient Express. Zwischen 2012 und 2016 wurde der gesamte Komplex des Bahnhofs komplett renoviert. Ziel der Renovierung war ein neuer „alter“ Hauptbahnhof mit einem modernen und zeitgemäßen Erscheinungsbild.

Die “Räder der Zeit” ein phantastisches digitales Wandbild (ca. 130 m2) in der Bahnhofshalle des Künstlers Prof. Dr. Boyan Dobrev verleiht dem Hauptbahnhof ein modernes und zeitgemässe Erscheinungsbild. Dieses künstlerisch gestaltete digitale Wandbild, ein Mosaik aus über 5’600 historischen Fotos, zeigt und erzählt die Geschichte der bulgarischen Eisenbahngesellschaft. Ein Besuch des Hauptbahnhofs lohnt sich, auch dann, wenn Sie keinen Zug nehmen.
