The Arsenale in Venice is located in the Castello district. Since the 12th century it has been the shipyard and naval base of the mighty maritime republic of Venice. Before the age of industrialization, the Arsenale was Europe’s largest production facility and, with its various buildings, warehouses and port a model for other naval arsenals in Europe.
