Salvador Dali in Figueres and Portlligat

The Catalan city of Figueres, the hometown of artist Salvador Dali, is about a two-hour drive north of Barcelona in Spain. For all Dali lovers, the Teatro Museo Dali is definitely one of the sights to visit. Here in this place Dali’s paintings were exhibited for the first time. As one of the main representatives of Surrealism, he is one of the most famous painters of the 20th century. After Dali’s death in 1989, he was buried in the crypt under the glass dome of “his” museum. You should definitely take enough time to visit the Teatro Museo Dali. For me the visit was worth it. The exhibition is different, imposing, weird, bizarre, very interesting or simply surrealistic! By the way, I also recommend the jewelry exhibition next door. If you like jewelry, you should definitely go in, it is included in the entrance fee.

After visiting the museum, the Dali lovers should continue their journey from Figueres to his house in Portlligat; he lived there since 1948 with his wife Gala until his death. Portlligat is a small town in a narrow bay on the peninsula of Cap de Creus near Cadaqués on the Costa Brava in Catalonia. The entire estate of Dali is open for visitors. You will feel his presence as you walk through his bizarre house and garden, standing in his studio or at his unique swimming pool in between a pile of Pirelli tires. It’s all authentic and you’re immersed in Dali’s surreal world! Finally, the Dali Castle (Gala Dali Castle Pubol) which is not far from his house, is another attraction open to the public. On some days there are too many visitors in Portlligat who want to see his property. You should therefore pre-order the tickets on the Internet to avoid long queues.

Die katalanische Stadt Figueres, die Heimatstadt des Künstlers Salvador Dali, liegt etwa zwei Autostunden nördlich von Barcelona in Spanien. Für alle Dali-Liebhaber ist das Teatro Museo Dali definitiv eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten. Hier an diesem Ort wurden Dalis Gemälde zum ersten Mal ausgestellt. Als einer der Hauptvertreter des Surrealismus ist Salvador Dali einer der berühmtesten Maler des 20. Jahrhunderts. Nach Dalis Tod 1989 wurde er in der Krypta unter der Glaskuppel “seines” Museums begraben. Sie sollten sich unbedingt genügend Zeit nehmen, um das Teatro Museo Dali zu besuchen. Für mich war der Besuch ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Die Ausstellung ist anders, sie ist imposant, komisch, bizarr, unvergleichlich oder einfach surrealistisch! Übrigens empfehle ich auch die Schmuckausstellung nebenan. Wenn Sie Schmuck mögen, sollten Sie auf jeden Fall hineingehen, es ist im Eintrittspreis enthalten.

Nach dem Besuch des Museums sollten die Dali-Liebhaber ihre Reise von Figueres zu seinem Haus in Portlligat fortsetzen; er lebte dort seit 1948 mit seiner Frau Gala bis zu seinem Tod. Portlligat ist eine kleine Stadt in einer schmalen Bucht auf der Halbinsel Cap de Creus in der Nähe von Cadaqués an der Costa Brava in Katalonien. Das gesamte Anwesen von Dali steht zur Besichtigung offen. Sie spüren seine Anwesenheit, wenn Sie durch sein bizarres Haus und Garten gehen, wenn Sie in seinem Studio oder an seinem einzigartigen Schwimmbad zwischen einem Stapel von  Pirelli-Reifen stehen. Es ist alles authentisch und man ist in Dalis surreale Welt eingetaucht! Schließlich ist das Schloss von Dali (Gala Dali Castle Pubol) unweit von seinem Haus, eine weitere Attraktion die zur Besichtigung offen steht. An manchen Tagen sind zu viele Besucher in Portlligat die sein Anwesen sehen wollen. Sie sollten daher die Tickets im Internet vorbestellen um lange Warteschlangen zu vermeiden.
