A culinary quest through Peru, Piranhas inclusive!

The piranhas are predatory, swarming freshwater fish and occur mainly in the tropical waters of South America. They attack their victims with their sharp teeth and consume them down to the bones. Probably the aggression behavior of these fish is a bit exaggerated, but so I remember these predators from adventure movies. However, I did not expect to find these predators in the menu card of one of the best restaurants in the world.

A “meal” at the Restaurant Central in Lima, Peru is an unforgettable experience. The guests will be guided through the Peruvian flora and fauna in different processing steps and with the most different ingredients, including Piranhas! The 17-course tasting menu was a special kind of Peruvian delicacy. We enjoyed a culinary quest through Peru. This journey began 10 meters below sea level with “Rock Molluscs”, before climbing up to 4100 meters with „High Andes Mountains“ and finally, after a two-hour journey of enjoyment, we finished with “Medicinales and Plant Dyes”. A “meal“ in the Central is absolutely recommended! However, an early reservation is necessary in order not to miss this culinary pleasure!

Die Piranhas sind räuberische, im Schwarm lebende Süßwasserfische und kommen hauptsächlich in den tropischen Gewässern Südamerikas vor. Sie attackieren ihre Opfer und fressen sie innerhalb von Sekunden mit ihren scharfen Zähnen bis auf die Knochen auf. Wahrscheinlich ist das Aggressionsverhalten dieser Fische etwas übertrieben, aber so erinnere ich mich an diese Raubfische aus Abenteuerfilmen. Ich hätte jedoch nicht erwartet, dass ich diese Raubfische in der Menu Karte eines der besten Restaurants der Welt finden würde.

Ein “Essen” im Central Restaurant in Lima, Peru, ist ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. In verschiedenen Verarbeitungsschritten und mit den unterschiedlichsten Zutaten werden die Gäste durch die peruanische Flora und Fauna geführt, Piranhas inklusive! Das Degustationsmenü mit 17 Gängen war eine peruanische Delikatesse der besonderen Art. Wir genossen eine kulinarische Entdeckungsreise durch Peru. Diese Reise begann 10 Meter unter dem Meeresspiegel mit “Rock Molluscs”, bevor wir auf 4100 Meter Höhe mit “High Andes Mountains” aufstiegen, um uns dann, nach einer zweistündigen Genuss Reise, mit “Medicinales and Plant Dyes” gesättigt zurückzulegen. Ein „Essen“ im Central ist absolut empfehlenswert! Eine frühzeitige Reservation ist aber nötig um sich diesen Genuss nicht entgehen zu lassen!
